According to an audioblog (Saturday, February 24th), Gene lost his traffic speeding case, and the judge wouldn't lower the charge to less than 20 mph over the speed limit in a construction zone. Gene said it was explained to him that this is due to Homeland Security regulations (although that's a new one on me, I'm also not conversant in all the HS regs).
Doug blew it out of proportion as he is wont to do, and said Gene lost his Commercial Drivers License. Gene did NOT lose his CDL over a single ticket, and in fact has not lost his CDL at all. While Gene seems to think that people like me will further this untrue rumor which Doug started, obviously he is wrong.
Gene said his employer's insurance won't cover him as of June, so he might be out of trucking as of that time. He was upset that Doug brought up the situation on an audioblog, because he hadn't planned to discuss it until he had time to make a written blog. Gene thinks his enemies (I guess I fall into that category) will say that he is a loser for losing his career.
For the record .... even I wouldn't say that this makes him a loser. It's a fact of life that truckers do speed (c'mon, we've all seen it), and they sometimes get tickets for it (although they probably aren't ticketed as often as they should be for it, I really don't think they should lose their careers unless they get ticketed a lot). Losing a traffic speeding case doesn't make Gene a loser.
If indeed Gene loses his career over one speeding ticket, it's unfortunate and even unfair, and I take no pleasure in it at all. I just thought I should state my stance on this clearly and unequivocally.

Gene's Traffic Troubles

Perhaps Gene is losing his job because his employer was just looking for an excuse to be rid of him. And a speeding ticket is a viable excuse given his line of work.
Also, his employer's insurance will probably still cover him, but they may have to look under the risk pool. - which is a much higher rate.
Most truckers do speed and too many drive over-weight. But a good diver knows where the speed traps are on their routes and how to make it look like he's driving at weight.
Traffic laws which address anything other than force or fraud are counterfeit, and therefore Chapman should not have gotten a ticket in my opinion. However, he supports state control of the roadways, so he must agree to abide by their rules, counterfeit or not.
Should I be allowed to build a car that is wider than the traffic lanes? I am not forcing anyone to do anything nor am I engaging in fraud.
"Should I be allowed to build a car that is wider than the traffic lanes?"
Are you trying to tell us that you invented the Hummer? LOL

Reminds me of the time a group of Amish men told me I could not drive down the road because they were moving a house. I assumed they were talking about a small building, but in fact, it was a two story house.
